Wrangell’s borough assembly will discuss a few changes and maintenance projects that support the community at Tuesday’s meeting.
The assembly could change sections of the municipal code regarding the harbor.
Title 14 of the borough’s municipal code covers the city’s ports and harbors. The port commission has revised the section over the past year and a half, ensuring that it is legally sound.
Some potential changes before assembly include adding float houses to the policy and including the pronoun “her” to the Title 14 section of the municipal code.
Other amendments include adding a continuous 24-hour period to the term nuisance and defining what the Port of Wrangell means.
There are also major maintenance projects the assembly may move forward with. One of them would authorize $15,000 for permitting and designing a new monofil site. A monofil site stores earthen materials, like disposed soil and rock. The existing monofil is currently at capacity.
Without a new one, residents would have to seek out private options for disposing earthen materials. The location that borough officials are considering is next to the existing monofil site, on Ishiyama Dr. near the shooting range.
If approved, the Army Corps of Engineers and Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation will be involved to ensure regulatory needs are met.
The assembly will also go over approving $131,186.49 to continue with the Water Treatment Plant Improvements Project. It’s 92% complete.
