Wrangell’s assembly will discuss its budget for a few projects at Tuesday’s borough assembly meeting.

The projects include transferring $7,000 from the general fund reserve to a special revenue fund to cover costs related to the borough’s 911 system software.

The assembly will also go over accepting $229,900 from selling five industrial lots.

Additionally, DOWL Engineers implemented more adjustments to the water treatment plant earlier this year by DOWL Engineers. And because of that, the assembly will go over approving a financial adjustment to its invoice of $130,256.

This included a final commissioning trip, travel revisions and an increase in products and information requests.

The assembly will hold a public hearing regarding Borough Manager Mason Villarma’s request to purchase two lots of borough-owned property.

He wants to build a garage on each parcel- one for personal storage and the other for a fabrication business venture- which would comply with the light industrial zoned area. Although the Planning and Zoning Commission approved the request, former Economic Development Director Carol Rushmore opposes the proposal.

She wrote in a letter to the commissioners that she thinks the land should be put up for auction or sale to the general public, and not directly sold to Villarma.

Rushmore said other people in the past have held interest in the property too, but at the time the borough prioritized developing road access and utilities to the area. She also questions if the area should be zoned multi-family instead of light industrial.

Anyone wishing to speak at the meeting can sign up on the “Persons to be Heard” sheet located at City Hall before the meeting.

KSTK will broadcast the meeting starting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday on 101.7 FM and online at KSTK.org.
