Wrangell voters approved funding to rehabilitate the Public Safety Building in the municipal election earlier this month. Next, the borough assembly will authorize applying for a loan for the project at their regular meeting Tuesday night (Oct. 22). The federal loan will not exceed $3 million. It will finance restoring the siding and structural repairs to doors, roofing, windows and walls. The federal loan is from the United States Department of Agriculture/Rural Development Community Facilities Direct Loan Program.

Four hundred two Wrangell voters voted “yes” and 135 voted “no” on funding the repair of the Public Safety Building.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the assembly will hold a public hearing on amending launch fees for the Harbor and Port Facilities.

The Port Commission already supports the measure to increase the annual launch permits. Permits with a stall would increase an additional seven dollars -from $28 to $35 – and permits without a stall would increase $15 per year – from $55 to $70. Boaters without an annual permit who launch a couple times a year would pay $12 per launch. The borough would also create a new category for multiple trailer owners. An additional two trailers, after the initial one, would be five dollars each. The fourth decal would be full price and the following two trailers – the fifth and sixth – would again be five dollars each.

Industrial Park land

Wrangell’s assembly will also discuss selling the eight industrial lots in Wrangell’s Industrial Park on the Public Surplus website by auction. The public land is part of the Fifth and Sixth Avenue Industrial Park project.

Bidders must pay a $500 registration fee, which will be refunded to non-winners and credited to the winning bidder.

Additionally, the qualifying winner will have to sign a purchase agreement within 10 days of the auction closing and make a 20% down payment. The winning bidder will have to finalize the payment within 60 days.

The Tuesday meeting will be on KSTK beginning at 6 p.m., it will broadcast on 101.7 FM and be streamed at kstk.org. Anyone wishing to speak at the meeting can sign up on the ‘Persons to be Heard’ sheet located at City Hall.
