Wrangell police have arrested a woman in a stabbing that took place at Evergreen Trailer Park early Tuesday morning.

42-year-old Dana Cawthorne has been charged with felony assault in the first degree for allegedly stabbing a man in the chest.

Wrangell Police Chief Gene Meek said police officers and an ambulance responded to the scene right away.

Cawthorne allegedly fled the scene when officers arrived.

Police said officers located her behind a trailer a short distance away and safely took her into custody.

An ambulance transported the victim to the hospital for the injury.

Meek said the victim will be ok.

“It was a pretty significant wound,” he said. “They are currently being flown out to another area for a little bit more intensive care. They will survive. I don’t see any reason why the gentleman wouldn’t be able to make a full recovery, but it was a significant injury.”

Cawthorne’s arraignment was set for Tuesday at 4 p.m. An investigation of the incident is still underway.
