March was Women’s History Month and some of Wrangell’s fifth graders commemorated it on International Women’s Day, with a shadow box theatre production.
Students and community members piled into the high school auditorium to watch the shadow puppetry the students performed. High school senior Mia Wiederspohn read the Lingít story, Fog Woman, from the podium. The story is about Raven falling in love with Fog Woman who brought salmon to the region. But Raven’s treatment of her caused the salmon to leave and return each year.
Some of Wrangell’s fifth graders acted it out with shadow puppetry behind a screen.
KSTK’s Colette Czarnecki attended the event and created this audio postcard.
