Tribal leadership honored civil rights leader, Elizabeth Peratrovich at a ceremony in Wrangell on February 16. The Alaska Native Sisterhood Camp No. 1 and the Tlingit and Haida Community Council gathered at Wrangell’s Nolan Center.

On February 16 1945, the Alaska Territorial Legislature passed the Anti-Discrimination Act. Peratrovich, with the support of the Alaska Native Sisterhood and Alaska Native Brotherhood, delivered a strong testimony for unity.

KSTK’s Colette Czarnecki has this audio postcard featuring a couple of online speakers from Petersburg, dancers from Wrangell and attendees at the event.

Elizabeth Peratrovich Day was established in 1988 by the Alaska Legislature.
