Wrangell’s assembly is set to interview three candidates for borough manager next week (January 12), and may offer one the job.
Two of the candidates are already in town: Jeff Good and Alexandra Angerman.
Jeff Good has served as Wrangell’s interim borough manager since November, after previous borough manager Lisa Von Bargen left in late October. Good retired from the U.S. Coast Guard in 2020, after serving for three decades. He has held a variety of managerial positions, including a three-year stint as director of Coast Guard Base Kodiak.
Alexandra Angerman was raised in Wrangell and is currently the CARES Act Coordinator for the Wrangell Cooperative Association. She graduated from Eastern Washington University with a degree in Urban & Regional Planning in the spring of 2021.
The third candidate, Kim Zimmerman, is a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel who is currently the borough manager of Lewistown, Pennsylvania – a town of about 8,000 people located halfway between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. Zimmerman has experience living in Alaska: he worked for two years as the military housing operations director on Eielson Air Force Base outside of Fairbanks.
The three weren’t the only applicants for the position, though. In total, eight people applied to be Wrangell’s borough manager. Wrangell’s borough clerk Kim Lane says it’s up to the assembly whether any of the other 5 applicants will get an interview.
The candidates will be interviewed in a closed session on January 12. Interviews will take place over video-conference.
