A Wrangell man is charged with sending sexual messages and images to a minor. Dusty Cowan, age 37, was indicted by a Juneau grand jury earlier this month. He is charged with one Class B felony for encouraging the child to engage in sex acts or sexual exhibition. Cowan is also charged with a Class C felony for distribution of images depicting genitals to that minor. The child is or was believed to be younger than 16 years old at the time of the incident. Court documents claim the incident occurred last fall.
Cowan is a mechanic in Wrangell. He is no longer in custody. He posted a $10,000 bond. His bond has later reduced to $8,000 at his arraignment this week.
Under the terms of release, Cowan must not travel outside of Wrangell. He cannot contact the victim or their immediate family. He cannot have unsupervised contact with anyone under 18, except his own children.
If found guilty, Cowan could receive a maximum of 10 years in prison for enticement and five years for distribution of indecent materials.
Cowan’s next court date is May 20. A trial is not set yet.
