A plane drove off the runway at a Tyee power plant near Wrangell around 9:00 AM today. The Southeast Alaska Power Agency says the plane was unable to stop due to ice on the gravel runway. The nose of the plane landed into a nearby ditch.
SEAPA says the four people in the plane got out on their own and sustained no injuries. Outside emergency assistance was not called to the scene. SEAPA is evaluating the damage to the plane, which belongs to one of their contractors.
The Tyee Lake Hydroelectric Project is at the head of Bradfield Canal. It serves the communities of Petersburg and Wrangell.
