Last night in Wrangell, a 48-year-old man died in a single-car crash, just south of the mill property on 6-mile.

“The information we have at this point indicates that the car was headed in a southerly direction, out Zimovia Highway. It left the road surface and struck the embankment,” says Police Chief Doug McCloskey. He says speed is likely a factor. The department is looking into all potential causes.

Another passenger was in the car, a 22-year old man.

“My understanding was he had some injuries, but they probably weren’t life threatening,” says McCloskey.

The police department responded to a call at 7:30 last night. Police cleared the scene at 11:30.

The police are not releasing names to the public until all next of kin have been notified. That could go on into the weekend.
