The Wrangell Port Commission Thursday discussed a possible rate increase for boat work and storage space in the Marine Service Center.
Harbormaster Greg Meissner proposed increasing the work area rate from $0.50 to $0.75 per square foot, per day.
The commission agreed to wait for a vote until more specific rate estimates are available.
Commissioners also spoke with several Meyers Chuck residents about enacting moorage fees for the community’s dock that is now owned by Wrangell. Meissner argued moorage fees are necessary if Meyers Chuck expects to replace its dock in the next five years.
Meyers Chuck residents were split on the issue.
The Port Commission still has a few months to decide new rates. Commissioners plan to hold another workshop to discuss rates before their January meeting.
