Absentee voting started this week for the June 19th special election. The election is on the question of whether to recall 8 out of the 9 members who sit on Wrangell Medical Center’s Board of Directors.
Voting can be done in person, by mail, or new this year, by fax. Borough Clerk Christy Jamieson says those planning on voting absentee by fax need to fill out an application to apply.
“Once you fill out the form then the Borough Clerk’s office sends you a ballot and a voter certification that you need to sign. It will also give details regarding the secrecy of your faxed ballot. Once returned, the Borough Clerk will work closely with you to make sure everything was done properly,” she says.
Applications for voting by fax are available at Wrangell’s City Hall. In person voting can be done Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the map room at City Hall. Absentee voting ends June 18th at 5 p.m. Jamieson reminds all qualified voters that they need to bring a form of identification as well as a voter card to vote absentee.
The Special Election Day is Tuesday, June 19th. Polls open at 8 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Unofficial results will be announced shortly after 8 p.m. Canvassing is scheduled for June 21st in the council chambers. Absentee ballots will be counted at that time.
