PODCASTING: KSTK when it’s convenient for you!

KSTK now offers podcasting—the ability to download your favorite public radio programs and listen whenever and wherever you want.

To start, we're offering KSTK local news casts and packages. Music copyright issues are still under national review, but we anticipate being able to make most of KSTK’s locally hosted music shows available in the future. Also, there are currently a number of NPR and PBS podcasts which we will help you access.

What is podcasting?
Podcasting makes an audio file, typically an MP3 file, available online for downloading via an automatic "feed." You can then hear the podcast whenever you want from your computer or a portable media player.

What do I need to hear podcasts?
The first thing you need is podcast subscription software. Your options include the latest version of Apple's iTunes (which has the software built in), or other services such as Odeo or iPodder, to manage your podcast subscriptions. At this point, you will already be able to listen to podcast audio from your computer (provided your computer has a sound card and can play MP3 audio files). If you want to make your podcasts portable, you will need to transfer them from your computer to a portable media device.

How do I subscribe to a podcast?
To subscribe to our podcasts listed on this page, right-click on the link (or control-click in MacOS) and select "Copy Link Location" or "Copy Shortcut." You may then paste the link into your podcasting software. For NPR and PBS podcasts, follow the link for subscription information.

How much does it cost to use KSTK's podcasts?
KSTK's podcasts are free for you to use, but expensive to produce and serve. To help support KSTK's podcasts, you can become a KSTK member.
